Outlook: Need Admin Approval Message

When you connect an Office 365 mailbox you may see a prompt stating:

“Pipeline CRM needs permission to access resources in your organization that only an admin can grant. Please ask an admin to grant permission to this app before you can use it.”

Why this happens?
This message typically appears because user-level accounts aren’t allowed to complete OAuth consent for apps unless they have the right admin privileges in your Microsoft 365 tenant.

How to resolve
Important: You’ll need a Global Administrator or
Privileged Administrator in Azure to make these changes. If you don’t have the necessary access, contact your IT administrator.

Recommended path
Enable user consent to Enterprise applications so you can complete the sign-in and authorization flow.

After you successfully connect the incoming mail account, you can revert the setting if needed.

Tips
  • If you prefer a targeted approach, configure a policy that allows consent for specific users or groups instead of enabling consent tenant-wide.
  • If user consent is disabled or the app requires permissions beyond what users can grant, enable the admin consent workflow so users can request approval from an administrator.
