Prepare Your CSV or Excel file: Companies

Importing your list of companies into Pipeline CRM is a breeze—when your file is formatted correctly. This guide will guide you through the essential steps to ensure a smooth and error-free import.

    1. Start with Clear Column Headers

    • Use descriptive column headers in the first row of your file.
    • Your headers don’t have to match Pipeline’s field names exactly, but make sure they’re easy for you to recognize.
    • Example headers: ‎Company Name, ‎Address, ‎Phone Number, ‎Industry.

    2. Know Your Fields: System & Custom

    • Default fields: Pipeline CRM comes with standard fields for company information. [View the list of default fields here.]
    • Custom fields: If your data doesn’t fit into the default options, create custom fields in Pipeline before you import.

Here is more information on custom fields.

    3. Avoid Duplicate Company Names

    • Every company must have a unique name in Pipeline.
    • If you have multiple companies with the same name (think Starbucks locations), use a naming convention to set them apart:
    • Starbucks – 1912 Pike Pl
    • Starbucks – 102 Pike St
    • If duplicate names are detected, only the first entry will be imported. You’ll get an email listing any invalid entries.

    4. Quick Tips for a Smooth Import

    • Check your file for blank rows or columns—clean files import faster.
    • Double-check spelling and punctuation to avoid confusion or errors.
