Company Ownership

Why Company Ownership Matters

  • One Point of Contact: Assign a company owner who oversees all business for a company, separate from users working on individual deals.
  • Full Data Access for Owners: Company owners can access all data associated with their company, regardless of their visibility limitations elsewhere in the account.
  • Stage-by-Stage Flexibility: Reassign ownership as your sales process moves through different stages, without losing track of who closed, renewed, or upsold.
  • Accurate Reporting: Maintain a clear record of each salesperson’s contributions, making performance tracking and reporting effortless.

How Ownership Impacts Data Visibility
Here’s what happens when you assign a company owner:

  • Owners see it all: The owner of a company gains access to all related data, including deals, people, documents, activities, and agenda items.
  • Visibility is company-specific: Ownership overrides standard visibility for that company only. It doesn’t change the user’s role or access elsewhere.

Assigning a Company Owner

You can update the Owner field for a company if your user permissions allow it. If the field appears grayed out, your account admin can adjust your access by going to Account Settings > Users.

Want users to be assigned as owners when they create a company, but not let them change it?
As an admin, set up a Conditional Field to make the Owner field Required. The field will be grayed out, but the creator will be automatically assigned as the owner.

Assigning Owners During Import

  • Users without permission to change the company owner are set to 'no owner'.
  • Executives or basic users with permission can use the owner option during the mapping step.
    • Basic users are also restricted to the visibility set within their team. If they have Global visibility, they should be able to assign to all users within their account. If not, they are restricted.
